Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting!
The NBA announced today that the Bulls-Pistons second round playoff series will tip off on Saturday on TNT. In addition to the stirring storyline involving Ben Wallace’s return to Motown, the series bring back memories of some great playoff games between the teams during the late eighties and early nineties. I found this cool clip of the end of Game Three of the 1989 Eastern Conference Finals between the teams at the one-and-only Chicago Stadium. Note these interesting observations.
• Watch Doug Collins run off the floor after the Bulls win this game.
• Got to love the Queen, “Another One Bites the Dust.” Somewhere high in the Appalachian Mountains, the ghost of the Junk Yard Dog is smiling.
Of further interest, this classic Intercontinental Championship Match from Wrestlemania I was called by the late Gorilla Monsoon and the former Governor of Minnesota, Jesse The Body Ventura. I once interviewed Ventura with a fellow journalism student backstage at Foellinger Auditorium at the University of Illinois Campus a couple of months prior to the 2004 presidential election.
When describing candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry, Ventura described it to being equivalent to walking into a 7-11 and being able to only choose from Coca-Cola and Pepsi. What about the RC Cola, Ventura ventured! At that moment, I made direct eye contact with Ventura, who had this look in his eyes as if he was blowing my mind. Funny, because I certainly thought he was blown on something on that night! (Rasheed knows what I’m talking about!)
I’ll be providing a preview of the upcoming Bulls-Pistons series in the next couple of days.
