Ben Gordon and the Bulls Face a Hot Los Angeles Clippers Team at Home Tonightby Chris Maynard, chris@hoops4thesoul.com

After losing to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night, the Chicago Bulls had a good 72 hours to stew about its bad start to the regular season. Here’s hoping the team is upset with the start and comes out looking to play tonight. The Bulls better be ready as the Clippers have been scoring in triple digits thus far this year without Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston.

Chicago is not playing a team like New Jersey, Philadelphia or Milwaukee that will go through prolonged offensive slumps and allow the Bulls to hang around. If the Bulls are slow and ineffective on defense, the Clippers could have a field day and run them out of the building.

With Detroit and Toronto coming to the United Center on Thursday and Saturday night, this is a big game. It’s not a must-win, but the Bulls really can’t afford to be 0-4 against the Pistons and the Raptors, a team that plays as hard as anyone else in the league.

Maybe the Bulls will get some energy from rookie forward Joakim Noah, who will make his debut tonight after missing three games with an ankle injury. Noah could take minutes from Ben Wallace, who has been bothered by an ankle injury and allegedly not able to jump. However, he, Kirk Hinrich and Andres Nocioni have still been able to whine to the officials about every call against them.

In looking at the Bulls tonight, it’s time for the team to get back to basics, focusing on the defensive end. In other words, it’s time for the Bulls, as one of the best bands around have sang, to Wake Up, and do the little things on defense that have allowed Chicago to be a great team the last couple of seasons.

While the lyrics of this song from The Walkmen may not apply, it certainly does in terms of intensity when listening to it.

The WalkmenOut of station through my radio
nothings on
it’s like a joke thats told with out its final line
where’s it going
where had it round

I know
I’m trying
I’m trying to wake up
wake up

and I tell by you way too far
looking back I had a casing sentimental suns and shade
won’t they ever spin around
foward
they’re trying
they’re trying
and so they do

in the call of a new world
as I climb to the next floor
haven’t we
met before
under brighter skies above
above

and in a way its fine
we’re walking through wind
unfamiliar scenes
we’re choking on it
and we’re shaking hands with someone we dont know now

wake up
wake up

– The Walkmen, Wake Up, from Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone
