Forty years ago today, the Philadelphia 76ers traded Hall-of-Fame Center Wilt Chamberlain — he of the 100-point game and alleged 20,000 women — to the Los Angeles Lakers for Darrell Imhoff, Archie Clark, Jerry Chambers and some cash.
No word on whether Philadelphia wisely invested some of this cash from the Chamberlain trade and used it when signing Elton Brand to a 5-year, $82 million contract.
Here’s hoping this major free agent splash will make some Philadelphia fans feel better about this dubious trade of one of the greatest centers of all-time.
And if you’re a Sixers fan who’s still feeling depressed about the trade, drown your sorrows in this musical tribute to Wilt Chamberlain.
