This is the Worst NBA Finals in the History of the Game!
Well, what could you say about that first half. It’s 40-38 in favor of the Spurs. That about sums how ugly this game and series has been (how can anyone say the Spurs are a joy to watch; they play a lot of these brutal games). Here’s what I don’t like about the first half, mostly with the Cavs and the fact that these two teams are in the Finals. Maybe I should pop in an old VHS of the Lakers and Celtics from the eighties to see how physical defense does not have to mean no offense.
Lebron James: Despite what the ABC commentators are saying about James, he is not playing aggressive enough. Six of his seven points have come with him using his size and getting layups. With that said, James is getting good low post position and still not attacking the rim. He had Tony Parker on him down low one possession, and went for the fadeaway. He’s also had Bruce Bowen isolated a couple of times on the wing with no defense down low and not taken him to the cup. James is playing stupid and trying to be too physical rather than just dominating and using his tremendous skill. It’s time for James to show up. He has been an utter disappointment thus far this series. When will he start playing as if he’s going for an NBA title?
Mike Brown: I liked how Brown coached the first quarter. On the first possession, the Cavs got the ball into Drew Gooden, who missed a rushed shot, but it was a good idea. He even played Gooden and Varejao together in the first quarter. And Brown even started Daniel Gibson. With that said, he had a terrible, old and slow lineup out there in the second quarter with Eric Snow and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Brown is in over his head, and it’s a joke that he’s in the NBA Finals. Cleveland should be up 10 points right now if they were attacking and pushing the pace. The Spurs have played a brutal first half with Duncan on the bench and Tony Parker did not get going until midway in the second quarter. The Spurs are up two points when this game is there for the taking for the Cavs. Cleveland might have let the opportunity in this game slip already, and Brown (like he has done all series) has merely sat there than getting his team to play with urgency.
Tony Parker: Here’s why I don’t like this guy and why I say he’s soft. He didn’t come out aggressive tonight or even looking to get his game going. Cleveland hasn’t done anything spectacular to stop Parker. With that said, things have turned for him after the first 18 minutes. Parker started getting into the lane and breaking down the Cavs’ defense. This could be a bad sign in the second half.
Watching paint dry is more enjoyable than seeing these two teams play. This is just atrocious basketball. What a farce this series is! Boy, the NBA really needs to focus on getting back to quality basketball rather than this junk. Embarrassing. Wonder what the ratings are going to be for this stinker?
