Remembering the Spring of 1992 following Bill Wirtz’s Death

In the wake of the death of Chicago Blackhawks Owner Bill Wirtz this morning, Hoops4theSoul remembers a magical time in Chicago: the Spring of 1992. The Chicago Stadium was rocking at that time as roommates, the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks, made the Finals of their respective leagues. Michael Jordan and the Bulls would take care of the Portland Trailblazers in six games for their second of three straight titles, while the Blackhawks were swept by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1992 Stanley Cup Finals after rattling off 11 straight victories in the playoffs.

For Whom the Bell Tolls!

While being a very solid yet unspectacular college basketball player and seemingly having little prospects of a career in the NBA following his time at Michigan State University, Milwaukee Bucks guard Charlie Bell has signed an $18.5 million offer sheet with the Miami Heat. Looking back at whom Bell played with in the backcourt at Michigan State–superstar college point guard Mateen Cleaves and high school All-American Marcus Taylor–and it’s hard to believe that Bell will have a more meaningful NBA career, that is if the Bucks let him go to Miami. Bell has surprisingly said that he would rather play in Greece than go back to the Bucks after the team allegedly promised to take care of him and failed to do so.

Greg Oden Inevitably Compared to Sam Bowie
Filed Under NBA, Commentary | Leave a Comment
While he will miss his rookie season with knee surgery, Portland Trailblazers rookie Greg Oden should not be compared to Sam Bowie just yet. Unfortunately, the comparisons between the former Ohio State star and Bowie, the guy forever known as the pick before Jordan, are being made. Some are already wondering whether the Blazers screwed up by not selecting stud University of Texas forward Kevin Durant, who was drafted by the Seattle Sonics with the second pick in this year’s draft. The answers to both of these questions are a simple ‘no’.
