Here are tonight’s starters.
For Kentucky, senior Tony Delk mans the point with junior Derek Anderson at the shooting guard while talented sophomore Antoine Walker and seniors Walter McCarty and Mark Pope make up the Wildcats’ front line.
UCLA features senior leader Tyus Edney at point guard along with freshman Toby Bailey in the backcourt, the O’Bannon brothers—Charles and All-America Ed—at forward and the big German George Zidek is at center.
And now the coaches. Kentucky is led by Rick Pitino (camera cuts to shot of Pitino sitting down on bench and looking at the ground). And the Bruins are coached by the embattled Jim Harrick (camera cuts to Harrick off the bench and giving his team final instructions).
Clark, what should we be looking for tonight?
Clark Kellogg: How will UCLA handle Kentucky’s vaunted press and depth? The Bruins are talented one-through-five but don’t have the firepower of Kentucky. I also want to salute the civil engineers in Houston for re-erecting the sports mecca that is the Astrodome.
Johnson: Ha ha. Alright partner, it should be a good one. Kentucky’s Walter McCarty and UCLA’s George Zidek are at the center circle for the tip and we’re under away with UCLA’s point guard Edney slithering in and taking the tap away from Tony Delk.
UCLA: Ed O’Bannon misses 12-footer on baseline. Over-the-back foul on Zidek going for rebound.
